Annual meeting for our new combined league of Grafton and Shrewsbury went very well. We had a good mix of Grafton and Shrewsbury members. We decided to follow the lead of LWVUS and LWVMA and not charge dues to Student members. We also adopted the new Bylaws for the combined league. During our budget discussion we discussed dues for regular members. We have kept them at $50 for quite a few years although the actual cost per member is $55. We decided it would be good to a have a committee study this issue and bring their findings to the entire membership in the coming year. Some members would like the dues to be raised and others felt the $50 charge was working fine.
We discussed activities for the coming year with plans to register voters, especially students and also work with the schools to improve civics education. LWVMA will also have a state study regarding Ballot questions that we hope to present to our members.
Our guest speaker was Nancy Brumback, the Legislature Chair for the LWVMA and a member of the LWVMA board of directors. Nancy discussed the current bills in the state legislature that the league has been working to get passed in both houses. Several had been approved by the Senate, but were still pending in the House. She asked us to contact our representatives since this legislative session would not end until July 31.
